Elizabeth F. Ellet

(1818-1877)

Biography

Born in New York, Ellet's marriage resulted in her settlement in Columbia, SC, where her husband was a professor of Chemistry. After her marriage, Ellet published Poems, Translated and Original; the collection included a drama, Teresa Contarini, which was performed in New York and elsewhere. Other books by Ellet include The Characters of Schiller, Scenes in the Life of Joanna of Sicily, Country Rambles. Today she is best known for her three-volume The Women of the Revolution.
